Retransfer (also known as ‘reverse transfer’) is a card printing method that uses an ink ribbon and film to print onto cards rather than a direct print technique. Once your cards are placed into the retransfer printer, the printhead never comes in contact with the actual card but instead, the ink gets printed onto the reverse side of a clear film. This process allows the film to be laid and heated onto the card which creates a full-bleed high-definition graphic that can be printed on unevenly surfaced cards, smart cards, proximity cards, pre-punched cards, key tag cards or non-technology cards.
